Līgātne is a small town along the Gauja River and one of the country's oldest paper production centers. Its territory lies within the Gauja National Park. In this sanctuary of the region's flora and fauna, you can observe deer, beaver, elk and even bison and bears in their enclosures, on foot along the paths designed for this purpose (including the botanical trail). The park is also equipped with a 20 m-high observation tower (visitligatne.lv). Access is complicated by public transport, so we recommend renting a bike in Līgātne if you're not motorized.
