Between the small village of Buonfornello, the Fiume Grande and the sea stretch the ruins of Himère, which was founded in 648 BC by the inhabitants of Messina. It was, with Selinunte, the most advanced Greek post to the West. It was in this place that, in 480 BC, one of the decisive battles in the history of Sicily, opposing Greeks and Carthaginians. They didn't supportèrent their defeat and in 409 BC, 70 years later (revenge is a dish that ate cold, the Carthaginians seemed to know something), they put the city to a bag. The survivors of this massacre took refuge in Termini Imerese. Among the ruins that can be seen, only those of the Victory temple, probably built by the Greeks after the battle of 480, are interesting. Those of the other three temples, dating from the th, life and th centuries BC, are exposed in the Antiquarium.
