Former thonaire and holiday resort west of the same name. It seems that Charlemagne in person named the city, during his journey to the Holy Land, believing it worthy to wear his proud Paladin of France, Roland (Orlando). The ruins of the Orlando Castle are still visible. The city belongs to the province of Messina and is the capital of the Nebrodi Mountains region. Here the poet Lucio Piccolo was born (cousin of the author Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa of the Cheetah).
