The position of the village of Crest-Voland, on a circular valley, gives it this atypical name. For a long time cut off from the rest of the world by the presence of very often impassable rivers, the Arly and Nant Rouge, the poor and isolated community had to be autonomous. For a long time, it remained in a difficult situation until 1960 when it only had 232 inhabitants.
