To the south of the Hermitage region and its famous wines, the commune was created in 1866 by separating from La Roche-de-Glun. At the confluence of the Rhône and the Isère, Pont-de-l'Isère takes its name from the bridge built in 1822 in place of another wooden bridge destroyed by fire in 1814. In the past, the local people used to reach the two banks of the Isère by ferry. Or by road, a distance of 18 km. The new bridge simplified local life! Today, Pont-de-l'Isère, crossed by the famous National 7, is known for being located on the 45th parallel. A sculpture marks this specific position on the border between North and South
