After suffering the rural exodus in the last century, this village in Upper Vivarais has been repopulating since the early 2000s. It is because its environment is not lacking in attractions. It now has a population of about 500. Gilhoc-sur-Ormèze is characterized by its circus of "mountainous hills" that feed a very dense hydrographic network of which the Ormèze serves as an outlet. This rural commune maintains a dynamic agriculture led by young farmers who have taken over the farm from their parents. As a reminder, Gilhoc experienced the golden age of fishing between 1950 and 1970. Since then, peach orchards have decreased significantly while cherry orchards have increased significantly. In addition, there are cattle, dairy and meat farms, as well as two major goat farms and an organic dairy sheep farm with processing into cheeses and yoghurts. An arborist transforms his harvest into fruit juice. The territory also has beautiful chestnut groves. Finally, you should know that the village houses a bakery, a hotel-restaurant and a multiservice (grocery store-mail-bar).
