The origin of the name of Mésanger (which refers to a bird name, chickadee) would actually come from the former French mesean: " lepers ". Mésangé, Mésangé, therefore means'Pays '. The presence of lepers in the age of the Middle Ages - in a much larger area than is currently the case. The municipality was originally one of the most important in the region. Its immense territory stretched far beyond the limits of the current commune. The city has many sites to discover: Château du Pas-Nantais, the Manoir de la Quétraye, the mill of La Quétraye, the oak alley, the castle of Varenne, the castle of La Hardière, the castle manor house, the old castle of the Roche and the Manoir des Rigaudières.
