The village probably derives its name from a settlement by the Goths from the fifth century. The castle overlooking the Garonne Valley was built in the xiiith century and redesigned from the seventeenth century. Rarely will castle have been so disputed in history, its promontory was strategic at the gates of Quercy, Guyenne and Gascogne. It overlooks the village, which is a little burst at the foot of the first slopes, opened on the valley of the Garonne and Valence-d 'Agen. The church at the foot of the castle was recently restored.
