In 1269, Philippe de Montfort created this former farmhouse or new town. Major livestock fairs and markets take place in the th century and early th century. The church was built in 1896 on the previous building dating back to the fifteenth century in the context of the spiritual restoration of the countryside. The village does not have the tourist potential of others, but Villefranche is located on the Paris meridian. The second one concerns a historical character: Jean Jaurès, born in Castres, who often came with his beautiful family holiday in Bessoulet, 2 km from the village, direction Mouzieys. The house and its park are now a leisure centre.
