Drained by the Canal du Midi, the Hert-Mort and numerous streams, this commune has about 2,500 inhabitants. Church, chapel and castle are part of its heritage as well as the works linked to the canal: the Nostreseigné Bridge-Canal and the Montgiscard lock. An 18th century wash house, partly closed, testifies to the time when the water of the canal was used by the women to wash their clothes. The chimney and the fireplace to heat the water for the laundry have disappeared. The economist and journalist Bernard Maris, murdered in the Charlie Hebdo massacre, spent part of his childhood in Montgiscard. He is buried in the cemetery of the town
