Nizas, 156 inhabitants, is located on a plateau. Originally, in the 11th century, it depended on the lordship of Savignac. The church of Saint-Romain, with its massive bell tower and three bells, is noteworthy for being built of stone, whereas almost all the churches in the region are of brick. Already restored in the 18th century, the church underwent an interior renovation between 1843 and 1848. Observe the painted altarpiece with a beautiful carved and gilded wooden statue of the Virgin and a large painting of Christ. The contribution of the village to the Resistance during the Second World War is well known. From 1942 to the Liberation, two farms sheltered the operational headquarters of the Andalusia network of the French fighting forces, from which many radio messages were sent to London and Algiers.Beautiful panorama from the grassy square of the church.
