This pretty commune owes its name to the remarkable Roman aqueduct that stands proudly among the houses of the village (population 1,500). These remains are the best-preserved part of the 22 km-long aqueduct built by the Romans in the 2nd century, which supplied water to Metz from Gorze. A few steps towards the coast, along the arches, will reveal a reception basin excavated in 1860, which linked the underground section from Gorze to the aerial section (directions on site). Lovely walks and bike rides are available as starting points. Jouy-aux-Arches is also a commercial zone.
