In Gallo-Roman times, the village was called Vallis. From the 11th century until the First World War, Vaux, located 5 km southwest of Metz, was a village of winegrowers. In the 11th century, in the possession of the Metz abbeys of Saint-Symphorien and Saint-Glossinde, the village was fortified and had 5 gates, including the gate of La Noue and that of Champé. It has preserved its tightly-packed houses, a pretty wash house and numerous calvaries. Today, the vineyard of Vaux, which extends over 11 hectares, produces AOC Moselle wine which has earned its title of nobility. Several hiking trails leave from the village to discover the region.
