With its name of Latin origin, Falconis Mons ("falcon mountain"), Faulquemont was an important pottery site in Gallo-Roman times. The most famous of these potters, Satto (A.D. 90-160), exported his vases as far afield as Holland. His finest pieces can be found in the Musée de Metz. This once-fortified town first belonged to the bishops and the City of Metz, then to the Dukes of Lorraine. The town hall, dating from the 15th century, also bears witness to the town's past. In 1945, Faulquemont experienced a boom thanks to the Lorraine Basin coal mines. Today, the town is home to a multi-industrial basin, employing almost 2,800 people.
