Valmanya, whose name means "great valley", is a small village at the bottom of the Lentilla valley and nestled on the eastern side of the Canigo, of which the iron industry has long been the main activity. A martyred village during the last war, "Hardly wounded in its flesh and stones, the village of Valmanya will remain an admirable and painful example of the unshakeable fidelity to a country for which it has well deserved", Valmanya remains a symbol of resistance to the German occupation. Taking advantage of its exceptional geographical location, the village is now turning to green tourism on a family scale. This village of 35 inhabitants with a very peaceful and family spirit is the starting point for many hikes to the Canigó, the old iron mines and the ridge line separating the Conflent from the Vallespir (from the Col de Palomère). The Museum of Iron and Resistance is worth a visit.
