Bourg-Madame, which was just a hamlet in the 19th century, is today a large village of 1,500 inhabitants. For the anecdote, in 1815, when the Duke of Angoulême entered France through this place, he gave it the name Bourg-Madame, in homage to his wife Madame Royale, daughter of Louis XVI. To see, the church of Caldégas and its 6 baroque altarpieces of the 18th century; and the church of Hix built on a gentle slope descending to Le Sègre. Bourg-Madame is a border town with Spain and is always a lively place to visit. Puigcerdá, the largest town in the region with 7,000 inhabitants, is just across the river in Spanish Catalonia.
