Leaning against the southern flank of the Bougès massif, the village of Cassagnas overlooks the Mimente valley. Stevenson, the famous writer and great traveller, who used to walk from Florac to Saint-Germain-de-Calberte, passed through Cassagnas, which he describes as a black-roofed village on the side of the mountain in this wild valley, among the chestnut plantations. It was also in Cassagnas that Pierre Séguier was born, known as Esprit Séguier, a great figure of the Camisard revolt born in 1650, as a plaque on his birthplace indicates. Today, the village counts hardly more than 100 souls, who take advantage of the authenticity of the place.
