In the th century, Saint-Martin-Lalande was enriched by the culture of website, a tinctorial plant with red hues. The commune is also close to the Canal du Midi, built by the Bittérois Pierre-Paul Riquet, and classified as UNESCO World Heritage in 1996. Located in the south of the village, it presents a series of six locks in this area.
