It's a charming village for walkers and mystery seekers alike. In Gallic and Gallo-Roman times, it was home to a sanctuary dedicated to the cult of water. Destroyed at the end of Antiquity, devotions continued, but in the form of a cult to Mathurin, a 3rd-century saint reputed to cure the insane and the possessed. After his death, miracles continued to be performed at his tomb, as did the pilgrimages that made Larchant so popular. This village of character also borders a forest with rock caves and magnificent boulders, as well as one of the largest marshes in the Ile-de-France region, home to exceptional flora and fauna.
