Historians believe that the Roman road linking Dijon to Besançon probably gave birth to this village located in the extreme north of the department. Plundered several times by the barbarians, it rose again each time, then depending on the lordship of Gendrey. On the borders of the Haute-Saône and the Doubs, this picturesque locality has two must-see sites. On the one hand, the church of Notre Dame des Bois, built after the year 680 and dedicated to Saint-Léger, bishop of Autun. On the other hand its impressive Cistercian Abbey Notre Dame d'Acey founded in 1136 in the very admirable valley of the Ognon. A community of monks continues to live there.
