Halfway between Dole and Besançon, Salans is also at the edge of the Doubs department, which is reflected by the bridge that crosses the river north of this forest. The heart of the village beats around the th century church and castle, built by the family of Laborey, who would plead for Franche-comté against the appetites of the kings of France. This did not prevent the last heir of the family from being executed years later, to the Revolution.
