Le Russey is perched on the green and wooded plateau of Maîche. Its agricultural and forestry vocation has never wavered since the year 1000 when it was cleared. Cattle breeding of the Montbéliarde breed predominates, as does the charm of its large farms with low roofs. A particularity of this village is that its Catholicism is so deeply rooted that in 1906 it resisted the separation of church and state property. At the time of the revolution, the locality had already been christened Petite Vendée. Nearby, a beautiful 16th century church in Le Bizot, with lava roofs and a 17th century bell tower: imposing nave, pulpit and remarkable woodwork, equestrian statue of Saint George.
