Venteuil is a small wine-growing village in the Marne Valley with more than 180 hectares of vines, mainly Pinot Noir and Meunier. The village was the scene of an event that deeply marked the history of champagne. Indeed, at the beginning of the 20th century, between the bad weather and the phylloxera epidemic, the situation of the winegrowers was difficult, especially since some trading houses bought their grapes outside the appellation. It was on the village square that the revolt of the winegrowers began in April 1911, led by Emile Lagache and Edmond Dubois, "the Redeemer", who fought for the controlled Champagne appellation.
