The commune of Braux-Sainte-Cohière is famous thanks to its former military seigneury called "château", a magnificent architectural ensemble classified as a historical monument. Built at the end of the 16th century under Henri III by Philippe de Thomassin, Lord of Braux and Governor of Châlons, in the middle of the war of religion and succession to the throne of France, this fortified commandery has been at the heart of crucial episodes in the history of France, from the arrest of Louis XVI in Varennes to the Battle of Valmy, then in the 20th century during the two World Wars. In 2014, a family of enthusiasts began the restoration of this castle and decided to open it to the public. In its national plan to save endangered heritage, the Bern mission has chosen this emblematic building to represent the Marne department in the 2019 Heritage Lottery.
