The Valmy plateau is steeped in history. The French army, commanded by General Kellerman under Dumouriez, occupied the site. The battle against the Prussians on September 20, 1792 led to the proclamation of the Republic. The mill stood symbolically on the Champenoise plain. It was rebuilt after the storm of December 1999. The site also features a statue of Kellerman and, inside the pyramid, his heart, which had been deposited there. Below, next to the parking lot, the miller's house was reconstructed for the bicentenary celebrations of the French Revolution.
