Villedieu-sur-Indre is a municipality located in the natural region of the Champagne Champagne. The rivers Indre, the Claise and the Trégonce water its territory. The establishment of men on this sector is very ancient, since it is known that the third century Villedieu-sur-Indre bears the Gallo-Roman name of Pontiniacum. Raoul De Déols founded a priory in the tenth century in this little village called Ponthieul. He then decided to transform it into Villa Dei, then became La Villedieu. During the French Revolution, the name of the sector was changed again in the name of Truth, to become Pontigny-sur-Trégonce. In 1890 she received her current name.In 1847 the Jacquerie of Buzançais extended to Villedieu, causing riots.Today we can admire the church of San Sebastian which dates from the eleventh century and was redesigned in the nineteenth century. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1994. His frontispiece is the French Republic's motto «Freedom, equality, fraternity».
