CAP CARBON

North of Bejaia, a road climbs through olive trees and pines, bypassing the heights of Gouraya. We take a small tunnel, before discovering the magnificent Cape Carbon, in fact an islet connected to the coast by a small alluvial isthmus. The path leads to a lighthouse built at 220 m, one of the highest in the Mediterranean, along very nice creeks. However, you can take very nice pictures of the lighthouse from the platform. And the view of the sea is breathtaking! Also expect to see some monkeys, regulars of the place.

LARGE BASIN OR SAHRIDJ

Now a green space, the Sahridj dates back to the reign of Youssef Ibn Tachfine who had it dug on the model of a Marrakchi basin, probably to serve as a reservoir and to allow the water supply of the city and the irrigation of the gardens and orchards that made its fame. Today, there is no more water. It has been the subject of many myths, the most cheerful of which involves the daughter of a king who came to bathe there, and the most terrible tells that Aroudj, the eldest of the Barbarossa brothers, had the last Zianid princes drowned there in the 16th century.

THE WONDERFUL CAVES (DAR EL-OUED)

Natural site to discover

Impossible to evoke the city of Jijel without speaking about these caves. The wonderful caves are discovered at the exit - or entrance - of a tunnel. When the caves which open in the cliffs of the cornice were discovered at the time of the drilling of the tunnel by which passes the N43, their walls were decorated with impressive limestone concretions, stalactites and stalagmites on which played the light... Splendid. The only drawback: it is sometimes very crowded.
