Timetable
Usually museums in large cities open from 10am to 5pm with one night per week, often on Thursdays. Always check the museum websites. The holidays are as follows
january1st.
Easter Sunday and Monday.
april 27 (national holiday, King's Day).
Ascension Thursday.
Pentecost Sunday and Monday.
december 25th and 26th.
Many museums and attractions are open and accessible on public holidays, except for Christmas and King's Day (national holiday). On these days, it is advisable to plan your activities carefully and make reservations to avoid unpleasant surprises
In the countryside, attraction schedules can vary greatly depending on the season and the day of the week. It is not uncommon to have a range of 12:00 to 16:00 and only on weekends for some attractions in the countryside
To be booked
It is recommended to book the exhibitions and events well in advance
In the case of the Anne Frank House, you should even book a month in advance. The big museums also offer tickets with a time slot
The Keukenhof tickets are very popular and you should also book your ticket in advance
It is still possible to book tickets at most ticket offices, but they will often be slightly more expensive.
Budget & Tips
For Amsterdam, the Iamsterdam card is recommended if you are planning several visits.
In Rotterdam, the Rotterdam Welcome card is a must and also includes transportation
Main events
In 2023, you will have to visit the historical Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum.
Guided tours
The museums all offer guided tours, but these are often in English. If you wish to take a tour in French, you will have to make arrangements in advance.
Many city tours are offered by bike or on foot. Some are thematic and include visits to bars and restaurants.
Smokers
There is no smoking inside restaurants, bars or public buildings. The terraces, and there are many of them, still allow smoking
Smoking is not allowed in sports complexes or schoolyards.
This ban also affects electronic cigarettes
Tourist traps
There is no need to be transported around the city in horse-drawn carriages or other tuc-tuc. And if you ride a bike, just go with the flow.
