Dordrecht (118,900 inhabitants), a port city between the Rhine and Meuse rivers, is just a stone's throw from Rotterdam. The old town of Dordrecht, affectionately known as Dordt, was once the most flourishing trading port in the Netherlands. Despite its exceptional geographical location, Dordrecht was supplanted in the 18th century by its great rival, Rotterdam.
