ROOTED CAVES
Read moreThese are caves with stalactites and stalagmites, at least that's what we're announcing. The most remarkable, in fact, are these dame cables, such as void of steel; these are roots that have led their way into the stone in search of water; some explore a gap and emerge a few metres further, still in search of water. The show is really amazing. Beyond the cave, you can find yourself at the bottom of a close canyon almost Hollywood, so it looks artificial. Then discovered a dark cave that is explored with a lamp. It's a maze of passages that don't go without bumps. The site is, of course, frequented by Indonesians who picnic on Sunday. We do not escape the eternal rubbish.

PANGURURAN VILLAGE
Read morePangururan is famous for its hot springs, fed by the 1,982-metre-high Mount Belirang. You're sure to pass over the bright red Aek Tano Ponggol bridge, originally built in 1913 and rebuilt in 2022, the only bridge linking the island of Sumatra to the island of Samosir. From Pangururan, buses leave for Medan and Berastagi, but patience is required. Nearby, discover the Hobon stone, apparently ordinary, but very special to the Batak people, who believe it holds the treasure and legacy of Saribu Raja.

GOLO CURU
Read morePerched to the north of the town, Golo Curu is a pretty hill offering breathtaking panoramic views over the entire Ruteng region. We strongly advise you to make the ascent at sunrise, to take full advantage of the incredible light effects on the surrounding area. Allow around 30 minutes for a pleasant walk. Ask your hotel to show you the way. The final approach can be tricky on a scooter, but the effort is rewarded with a breathtakingly beautiful picture of calm and serenity. This is Ruteng's most beautiful viewpoint.
