The Café Mart has many advantages. It is undoubtedly the key to its success with Moscow's bobos. First of all, the decor: several rooms according to the desired atmosphere. Then there is Georgian cuisine, of which only the best has been kept, with some regional specialties that cannot be found in any other restaurant in Moscow. Small but rich cellar space and a live music program. The location finally, on the Petrovka, just behind the Museum of Contemporary Art whose Mart cafe shares the courtyard (very pleasant in the summer among the statues).

This small restaurant with half a dozen tables is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant intimate brunches in the capital. If the modern and warm setting and the friendly (English-speaking) and delightfully helpful staff don't seduce you, then the food will. The restaurant prides itself on blending Russian and French influences to serve you modern fusion home-cooked food. The French influence is most evident in the desserts, which are to die for, but everything from the coffee to the eggs is sure to please.

It is an oasis of zenitude and Japanese refinement in the heart of the bubbling Moscow. We quickly get to the superlatives with this establishment of excellence, which is undoubtedly the best Japanese and seafood restaurant in Moscow, itself created and nestled in the best hotel in the capital: the Lotte. Here we play a masterful blend of tradition and modernity with an all-Japanese approach: product quality sublimated with simplicity, sophisticated presentation and discreet service. Great art!

Still little known because it has just opened, Depo, with its 11,000 ^m2 (!), is the largest food hall in Europe. Located on the site of a former tram depot, you will find 120 farmer's stalls, 75 fast food corners, shops, restaurants and even a concert hall in this giant food market. You will have a (difficult) choice of specialities from all over the world. We can't advise you enough to go to this unique culinary bazaar: you'll come away amazed, with a full belly and stars in your eyes.

The favourite restaurant of Russian government personalities for their business dinners. No wonder, because here you can taste the famous Kamchatka sea araignés. On the map, more than 300 varieties of seafood and you can choose your fish directly in the aquarium. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Don't hesitate to take a break in the restaurant's shop if you are in this area to enjoy blue lobster, oysters or caviar at the counter at more attractive prices than in the restaurant.

Here you are in the heart of a veritable Ali Baba's cave, created by the cartoonist Andrei Biljo. Each of the dining rooms has its own atmosphere. A candy rose with old dolls and nostalgic dinners serves the tea room. The large room, where old transistors, improbable fountains and papier-mâché statuettes are piled up, is the dining room. If Café Bosco does not stand out for the originality of its cuisine(as in many restaurants, it is a joyful fusion of Italian, European and Russian), its location in GUM and the quality of the service make it an ideal place to stay. In summer, its terrace overlooking Red Square offers without a doubt the best view of the historic heart of Moscow. You have to add a little bit on the bill, but its setting is worth it, especially for a first visit to Moscow. We recommend their huge lattes and their fancy pies.

A rather atypical café for this area, it is part of a chain of 5 Moscow establishments. If your soul requires something real, simple and local, then you won't find better. Delicious cheburekis for 70 rubles with a good glass of cold kvass or kotleta (meatball) with homemade mashed potatoes, all accompanied by a glass of vodka or even vodka arranged with pepper for 230 rubles. In the evening, it is usually crowded, for a good reason: once inside, you don't want to leave!

Located in a historic building that housed the barracks and stables of the Imperial Guard before the Revolution, its large halls with stone vaults and massive floors offer a convivial and contemporary setting. The quality of meats and service has enabled Stroganoff to obtain many distinctions over the years. The meat comes from the best farms in Russia (Bryanskaya and Orenburgskaya regions), Argentina and Japan (Kobe beef). As the restaurant name indicates, a great specialty of the house is the stroganoff beef, the true, and perhaps the best in town. The map does not stop only with meat and offers the finest Russian dishes (black and red caviar, Kamtchatka crab, etc.) as well as zakouskis gourmands. And since you don't eat good meat without a good glass of wine, the map will offer you wines from all over the world, but let you be guided by your waiter among the delicious Georgian and Russian wines of the cellar. 

Varenichnaya N°9 offers simple and tasty Russian home cooking, always cheap. You can enjoy homemade vareniki, sweet or salty (our favorites are the buckwheat and mushroom cream ones), they are all very good! The setting is, as usual, nostalgic Soviet: shelves full of books and trinkets, decoration that refers to apartment interiors. Having tea with sweet vareninki as a snack between visits will be a very good use of your time and a guaranteed relaxation.

It is one of the creations of Alexander Rapoport, an influential restaurateur in Moscow who is often recommended to tourists. Located in the building of the legendary National Hotel, it is a restaurant with an Art Deco decor: white and red tables and seats surrounded by statues, marble works of Soviet artists, marble also on the walls and painted ceilings. The room is sometimes a bit noisy. We recommend the three-meat dumplings with crushed ice and oysters from the Sakhalin Islands, on the borders of Japan.

The restaurant is located in the beautiful Museum of Modern Art "Erarta", a must in St. Petersburg. Here you will not find hearty main courses, but at reasonable prices, gastronomic seasonal cuisine of a very high standard. A special place in the institution is reserved for the visual aesthetics of the dish without this being to the detriment of the taste. The ideal place to quench your thirst for art and gastronomy. A restaurant, a bar, a karaoke bar. Basically, you just sit there, have a drink and feast. Large room (lots of cutlery) with a neat decor, lounge club style. The house specializes in seafood products, either Russian-style or spicy flavoured. Fine seafood platters, whole fish dishes (some meats as well), cooked shellfish and crustaceans. Lots of sushi/sashimi. Pelmenid with meat or seafood (e.g. cuttlefish ink). It's crowded at the weekend, explosive atmosphere guaranteed!

Recommended by Charles Plumex, chef in Haute-Savoie. Specialties: small Russian salads and a meat dish called "Viking".

Although the Baltic States are very close to SPB, finding a real restaurant with Lithuanian specialties is not common. In a beautiful classical setting, the chef masterfully interprets the famous cepelinais (grated potato dumplings stuffed with meat, cottage cheese or smoked pig's ears), Šaltibarščiai (cold beetroot soup), pheasant kibinai or rabbit (meat-filled breads with rooster broth). The portions are generous and are suitable for those who are very hungry.

This very chic Scandinavian restaurant is a nice place for lunch. A large dining room, small alcoves for lovers, or private squares for dinner between friends, without forgetting the tree terrace, Scandinavia wanted to create different atmospheres to satisfy a clientele of wealthy Russians. And it's very successful, intimate and warm at a time. Swedish cooking and grilled fish are served. Better booking before traveling. You can also spend any time in the day for a Swedish sandwich, bar or terrace.

A proud representative of the new breed of Georgian restaurants with stereotypical decor, Genatsvale threatens to take over the entire street as the management expands its operations. In two rooms with wooden furniture, you will be offered good food, such as Satsivi (chicken breast with nut sauce) or khatchapouri. During the day the atmosphere is very family oriented. In the evening you will see an orchestra and folk dances that flirt with caricature. This is the only flaw of this address!

A oriental fast-food in a décor with both charming and trendy red heads, between tradition and modernism. Japanese cuisine as well as Indian and Asian soups, sushi and dishes. Very convenient to eat quickly, you can also stay longer to chat among friends.

It is hard to believe, so the kebab has gone from fashion to home. But Russia is in eastern mode. You can't miss this last fashion restaurant, featuring white tents and a veranda in the most fashionable street of the capital. Shisha, sofas, cushions, voiles, the decor is planted, and it is pretty good. The food is good, especially Azeri but also Russian, Japanese and European as in a restaurant that respects… and prices are not excessive. This restaurant is a little tourist, because it is located in a street of the center and allows to eat in a decor that, although not Russian, remains very pleasant.

From the old Parisian brewery in the heart of Moscow. My Café has all the "chic French" seen from elsewhere. There is a foie gras and magret of duck, bouillabaisse and filet cute to raspberry sauce. City Space is the panoramic restaurant of the 5-star Swisshôtel. As you would expect in places like this, the quality is there, as is the service. The cuisine is a mix of European and Japanese cuisine (with sushi) in a very tight and well-controlled menu, which has fun surprising you with its presentation. Nevertheless, it is the view that gives the place its cachet: try to settle down near the bar.
