Between the end of the th and th centuries, it combines Gothic and Baroque styles. Under his frequent, slender and regular high warheads were once the Church's main treasures: burials of princes and the palatine library. The tombs were desecrated by French soldiers in 1693; only those of Ruprecht I and his wife remain. The construction of the abbatial church began in the twelfth century, in the Gothic era. Inside, a magnificent wooden retable of 1526 awaits visitors. The interior belongs to the most beautiful achievements of late Gothic in the upper Rhine basin. The painter Martin Schongauer painted a 100 square meter triptych fresco on the theme of the last judgment, restored between 1985 and 1993. From the outside, the view opens onto the Vosges, the Rhine plain and the Black Forest.

Read moreThe Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit) is the largest church in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It is located on the market square in the heart of the historic city center, not far from Heidelberg Castle. The Heiliggeistkirche was built between 1398 and 1515. The Palatinate Library was located inside. From 1706 to 1936, the interior of the church was divided into two parts by a wall. The choir was Catholic, the rest Protestant. Since 1936, the entire church has belonged to the Evangelical Church of Baden.
