Read moreYou'll have to choose the right time of year to eat at this crêperie, which changed hands last year after having long been one of the city's best crêperies, because at certain times of the summer you'll be invaded by swarms of little insects that will literally spoil your meal. We no longer find what made the place so special, a top-notch team on duty.

HOTEL DE LA MER
LE TROU VENDEEN
Read moreLocated on the edge of the slipway, in a decor that lovers of old stones will appreciate, the place could have called «A La Bonne Simple», both authentic and friendly. The framework is typical of the homes of the Poitevin Marsh: brown beams and!, to which typical objects of the marsh are attached, without forgetting the fireplace. The kitchen is simple, to the image of the country menu, with its head soup followed by the pig head, which is a good option for small budgets. All menus offer vendéennes specialities. For 28,50 € you will be served a bowl, frogs'legs followed by a melting of eels, then cheese and profiteroles, with coffee included in the menu. And for only 2 €, the gourmands will add a dish of meat to the choice with its vegetables. On reservation, the tourist menu allows, after tried a troussepinette, to discover the specialities of the Marais, like the stuffed poitevin, the box of frogs and eels, or the famous ham-mogettes.
COTE ET PLAGE
Read moreHow about Côte et Plage? This friendly restaurant on the embankment of the main beach is located on the right-hand side, at the end, towards the bathing cabins. Regulars come here for their morning coffee or to share plates of homemade tapas. We took advantage of the sunshine to sit on the terrace overlooking the beach. Home-cooked with fresh produce, the main dishes include fish tartare with flavours from other parts of the world and pad thai for an exotic touch, with a local touch: grilled sardines from Saint-Gilles and mussels in season.
CRÊPERIE LE CABESTAN
Read moreIn front of Patricia and Éric's restaurant, located in a pedestrian area a few steps from the port, there is a terrace. Made from quality local organic flour and fresh produce, the galettes are made to order. Amongst the must-tries, the Cancalaise with scallops, the Saint-Gilles with marinated sardines. Among the favourites: the Tartiflette, the Hamburger. Good point: suggestions for vegetarian galettes! Other alternatives: bavette, fish & chips, and mussels in summer. For dessert, we succumbed to the homemade caramel beurre salé crepe.

LE GRILL DE LA FORGE
Read moreEquipped with single rooms created by a blacksmith, this restaurant is specialized in grilled meats so that it preserved the soul of the ancient forge who was used to dwell here. Grilled meats, starting with pavé of rumsteak to the chabichou à l'onglet à l'échalote as well as the beef cutlet (for 1 person) with fried potatoes and salad and sauce wine. They also present variation of mussels in the card. Large salads, for instance la Fraîcheur (fruit and vegetables) or la Gourmande (gésiers, filet de canard, jambon de Vendée) and the tartare de boeuf haché minute will bring you the refreshing touch while enjoying your lunch on the small terrace in front of the entrance or on the covered terrace (heated), wider. Another option, the burgers house: the classic, the Vendéen or the special Forge, to eat while drinking one of the wines of the card made in collaboration with a sommelier. Let us add that in week, off-season, a daily special comes to supplement the offer of the other menus and quick formulas of midday. In July and August, non-stop service. You should remember that this restaurant can accommodate groups up to 40 people. This address is great, friendly and the services are quite ample.
