CANAL BIO

Organic store
4/5
1 review

Make no mistake about it, Canal Bio is not a cable channel, but an entirely organic supermarket. On more than 300 m², all the products are within reach of the eye and the hand with more than 7,000 references. There are about a hundred cereals and all the products of a classic supermarket, with a large part devoted to fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, a beautiful dairy section, cheese by the slice, fish, butcher's shop, a frozen food section, an organic wine cellar, not forgetting ice creams as tasty as they are light.

Lionel Poilâne's daughter, Apollonia, has taken up the torch and continues her father's work. In the main store, rue du Cherche-Midi, the whole range of the house is within reach. At the front of the line is the famous classic Poilâne bread, made from stone-ground wheat flour, sea salt and natural leaven. Next to it, rye, walnut or corn cob, rye with raisins, sandwich bread and peppered bread. Viennese pastries, apple pies and especially Punitions (small shortbread) are a pleasant way to fill a small hunger.

LES BELLES ENVIES

This beautifully decorated store makes the diabetic happy. Alixe Bornon, the owner of the place, she is diabetic since the age of 13, offers pastries with the glycemic index controlled. So, she worked with a Master pastry chef-chocolatier and a Medecine endocrinologist. For two years, they performed many tests to establish the glycemic index of each recipe based on natural combinations ( ancient grain flours, pure chocolates, unrefined sugars, and so on). Here, spices, alcohols and infusions play the role of flavor enhancer usually held by sugar. The most curious can even see the laboratory in the back of the store.

COMPTOIRS RICHARD

Founded in Paris in 1892, Maison Richard first made a name for itself in the wholesale trade of wines and spirits. An authentic Aveyron family business that developed around the delivery of quality wines in barrels and then in bottles, Maison Richard has adapted its know-how to coffee. Since then, in all the bars, cafés and restaurants of the capital and of France, you can't escape the logo of this honorable house. In the store, a tasting bar also offers you the opportunity to discover a selection of the best vintages and products.

Here, we continue to sell ice creams in "offbeat" flavors, made entirely from fresh ingredients: you name it! At Glaces Glazed, there's no shortage of imagination: Glazed and Confused (ribot milk, lemon, lemongrass), Dirty Berry (raspberry, lemon, sumac), Pump up the volume with a surprising blend of mango and Espelette pepper, Junip Jack Flash (organic rhubarb, juniper berry, gin). In fact, the brand is so successful that it now has a second outlet on the Left Bank, as well as various corners.

YOGURT FACTORY

1 review

We know that Americans are big consumers of ice cream, but to make this pleasure less caloric, they invented 0% frozen yogurt. It is this ice cream that has made Yogurt Factory a success. Frozen yogurt can be eaten on its own or with toppings that personalize it, i.e. fresh fruit, coulis, Kinder Bueno, Kit Kat, etc. This is a little less light, but it works well. The flavours change regularly and the smoothies are named after mythical couples, such as Bonnie & Clyde, made with strawberries and bananas, or Romeo & Juliet, made with blackberries and mangoes. Other treats include milkshakes and waffles.

WINE TOUCH

Caviste
4/5
1 review

Philippe is a former executive in the IT. A grandson of winemakers and especially a passionate wine lover, he decides to take everything to dedicate himself to his passion. His approach is original: he conceives a space on two levels of 100 m2 entirely dedicated to wine tasting and, of course, for sale as at a winemaker. We are impressed by the stonewalling of machines where the distribution system allows the conservation of wine. About 200 references, including 80 to tasting, the choice is wide, surprising, and all the great wine regions are represented. To begin his trip, the visitor is given a registered magnetic card that he uses to select the desired wine. he then can get served of the desired dose - 3, 6 or 12 cl - to accompany the tasting of "cornets" of charcuterie or cheese and set up on a small bistrot table or in the living room corner. A smart system, since it is obviously only the dose chosen is paid thus and without abuse, allows to discover several wines by tasting. The choices of "cellar master" at the top of modernity for the concept, are often favourites, and always well-thought selections of safe values or novelties. Once a month, amateurs meet winemakers and tastings take place along with concerts. Philippe has arranged the space a little like the cellar of an individual. Wood, warm stones and copper combine beautifully to bring a warm atmosphere. The basement rooms are privatized.

A steak or a flank steak? To eat on the spot or to take away? At Christophe Dru's, it's like this... We are in his butcher shop. This butcher's son, a butcher himself, had the idea of distinguishing himself by offering customers the possibility of cooking the products they buy from him, for a fee, and tasting them on the spot. Otherwise, there is the possibility to sit at a table and choose a dish from the menu. Next door, the house has opened Les Provinces d'à côté, a tapas bar, rotisserie and wine cellar.

PARIS PÊCHE

Fish and seafood shop

1 review

Paris Fisheries is located in the rue d'Aligre area since 1997, near the Marché market. In 2007, it was one of the first to develop a range of organic products: Madagascar shrimp, bar, royal sea bream, organic salmon and high organic mussels in areas where water quality is certified. Everything is always very fresh. Shopping takes place at the Halles de Rungis every day at 2 a. m. in order to dispose of the best products, but fish harvesters also work live with fishermen and oyster farmers on the French coast. On the shelves: live abalone, lobster and lobster, line bar, organic and wild salmon, fresh tuna fillets "Sushi quality", etc. The offer is varied with the advice of professionals for preparation, cooking or accompaniment. Paris Fisheries opened its restaurant the Sea Bar just a few metres from the fish garden so that guests can enjoy the products safely from the display in a Parisian atmosphere.

He also responds to the desires of his clients and creates sculptures on demand. AU POULET DE BRESSE

Poultry
4/5
1 review

The successors of Pierre Desjardin, who created this business some sixty years ago, continue the activity in the same direction. The origins of the poultry have not changed: the ducks come from Challans and the chickens from Bresse or the Landes; the rabbits were raised in the Gâtinais. The delicatessen and butcher's departments complete the offer: lamb from Lozère, milk-fed veal from Corrèze with the red label, beef from Aquitaine... All of this is "beautiful linen"! With its slightly retro frontage, this store cannot be missed in the shopping street of Belles-Feuilles. A much appreciated address, if we judge by the queue, on Sunday morning, for a grilled chicken.

This Normand, born on a farm, leaves nothing at random. Since 1978 it occupies the same location in the covered market Beauvau… She doesn't tell her and the meat fell in when he was small. Whether charolaises, limousines, or parthenaises, the meat is reduced by a minimum of days before stopping at the gate. His farmer pig is high in the open air, as is his poultry. A few fine preparations such as old beef roast, herbal sausages or other delicacies complement the choice offered by Michel Brunon who wants to stay in the traditional. His wife, Danielle, gives culinary advice to avoid missing the Bourguignon calf or beef.

MARCHÉ BEAUVAU – MARCHÉ D’ALIGRE

Covered market and market hall
3.6/5
5 reviews

This is not a Baltard hall, but this market is worth of a visit by fans of architecture, with its frame which is a turned boat hull. The market extends well beyond the covered market, and has a wide range of merchants, florists, booksellers, merchants of home accessories and fabrics. It has a nice, popular and relaxed atmosphere. The prices are often interesting, but beware of the quality especially at Aligre market. Two stalls offer organic products with a Bio Cart option where fruits and vegetables are sold in bulk or kilograms. You will find the poulterer-tripe butcher Au Capon d'Aligre at the Jeanne-d'Arc market (13th) and Farm Aligre will makes you want to taste everything, because of the good smells of cooked meats that invades the atmosphere. Aligot is fabulous. Dubuisson the fishmonger sells only line caught fish or sea fish. You can also take a tasty snack break at the stand of Paul Vautrin who offers tasting plates, at Corossol, an Afro-Caribbean-Cajun or enjoy a plate of oysters accompanied by a glass of white wine. Among these institutions, you will find the Graineterie of Jose Ferre with its formica countertop.

MARCHÉ SAXE-BRETEUIL

4/5
1 review

In this neighborhood (behind the Ecole Militaire and the Unesco headquarters), where there are not many shops, this large and beautiful market takes place on the central median of the Avenue de Saxe twice a week, under the greedy eye of the Eiffel Tower. It has a bit of a village atmosphere. The prices charged are at the top end of the range. On the other hand, the products are of high quality. There are plenty of four-season merchants, several producers' stands (poultry, vegetables...), excellent fishmongers and a very good tripe maker... But it would be an insult to the other merchants present not to say that their products are also first-rate.

You will find all the famous brands here, and also treasures of craft productions. We love this address for thousand reasons, at the head of the many activities that punctuate the year. Lafayette Gourmet yields indeed regularly into four to celebrate a festival calendar or honoured a product or a region. The delivery service is beyond reproach. In addition to its tea room in the Luxembourg Museum, Angelina is also present on the left bank in the lively rue du Bac, one of the gourmet arteries of the 7th arrondissement. The shop is all in white, Belle Epoque style revisited. Beware, unlike the other establishments of this unavoidable institution of the Parisian sweet landscape, it is not a tea room where you can taste its specialties, always so sublime. The macaroons and the famous Mont-Blanc take pride of place, alongside other classics such as the millefeuille and the fig tart (in September-October). PARIS STORE

Delicatessen Asian products

A large blue brand, less discreet than its competitor Tang, but we find the same lively and teeming atmosphere of Asian stores. When you enter on the left, you see the sauces and side dishes: Nuoc-mam, nam pla, oyster sauce, chili sauce, soy sauce (available in 5-litre jerrycans!), Worcestshire sauce from Léa & Perrins, etc. On the right, a large frozen food section that is really worth it. There are sorbets with exotic flavours, but also shrimps, skewers, nems and various steamed ravioli sold in bags of 50 at unbeatable prices. For rice, there is plenty to choose from with the famous 50 kg bags of butterfly rice, broken rice, noodles, including Japanese noodles, teas, canned drinks and instant soups. An entire section is dedicated to spices and condiments, and alcohols are well represented, so avoid French wine, which is not of high quality. For all fruit and vegetables, the choice is breathtaking. The problem: labels, not translated, and salespeople who are only moderately French-speaking.
