Things to see and do Cantal

It welcomes you at the entrance to the village: this remarkable fountain would actually date from the Middle Ages, but it joined its current location in the sixteenth century. The water comes from the mountains by some kind of closed gutter, stone. This fountain is classified as an additional inventory of Historic Monuments.

Set in a town hall, in the heart of this village devastated during World War II, the main Objective of this museum is to maintain the memory of the fighting that took place in the reduced Truyère on 20 June 1944. This place retains various pieces of which more than 1 000 objects, as witnesses of that time, a message coded ally on a silk scarf, tracts dispersed by air, weapons and photographs of the time. The site proposes to listen to the sound testimonies of the local populations and you will find at your disposal, a documentation centre of more than 200 books, dedicated to the Second World War, to resistance and Resistance. Other exhibitions and conferences are held on a regular basis.

The granite chaos, nestled between pine trees, is worth a visit. Good shoes are recommended to reach the top of the stone blocks. The three cross crosses overlooking the site and the steps cut in the rock testify to the traditional know-how of stone cutters. The orientation table interprets the wide panorama of the Cantal Mountains, Margeride and Aubrac. Free spot for climbing blocks, the site is located on a hiking circuit, starting from Saint-Just, passing through another local curiosity: the fountain of eyes. The chaos is offered to the walkway only if it leaves the large sandy road and walk in the pine forest over a hundred meters.

The Hélitas park extends over 18 hectares on the heights of the town. It is a haven of peace and a place where the people of Aurillac can enjoy a walk. Along the many paths that criss-cross the park, you will discover playgrounds for children or the quieter corners of the park, to read or rest. At the bottom of the park is the Jean Alric stadium, where the local rugby team, the Stade Aurillacois, plays. In summer, wooden deckchairs in the large meadow await you.
