A museum located in Aurillac, presenting ethnographic collections evoking popular and industrial traditions.
Housed in a former Visitandine convent (17th century), later transformed into a national stud farm, the museum has been part of the Pierre Mendès-France Cultural Centre since 1992. The Museum of Art and Archaeology offers a journey through human history. The ethnographic collections evoke popular and industrial traditions, such as that of the umbrella, a tradition of Aurillac. Games, videos, comics and books are spread throughout the museum.

Temporarily closed to the public until June 2024. Short school vacations (all zones): Monday to Friday, 2pm to 6pm. Summer, from June 21 to Heritage Days Sunday, Sunday to Friday, 11am to 6pm. Every first Sunday of the month, October to June, 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm. Free for children under 18. Adults: €6. Free for Aurillac residents with Museum card. Free admission every first Sunday of the month. Full price: €5 - Reduced price: 3,50 €. Tourism & Handicap label. Guided tour. Animations.

School holidays: Tuesday to Friday, 2pm to 6pm (groups and schoolchildren welcome in the mornings by prior arrangement).
Short school vacations (all zones): Monday to Friday, 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm
Open on the 1st Sunday of each month: 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm, with special events (conferences, meetings, etc.) - Free.
Open on public holidays from 2pm to 6pm, except January 1, May 1, November 1 and December 25.
July - August: Monday to Friday, 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 6pm, and the 1st Sunday of the month; other Sundays, 2pm to 6pm.
Admission: full price €2.50, reduced €1.50 and free for under-18s, combined ticket with Muséum des Volcans €4.50. Annual pass for the Musée d'art et d'archéologie and Muséum des Volcans: €10 and €7 (reduced rate).

On trouve une exposition permanente, bien cachée, bien exiguë. Légère sur le parapluie dont on sait pourtant le rôle essentiel dans l'essor de la ville.
Pour la partie historique, léger aussi : dressage en trois vitrines de l'histoire du néolithique à ce jour.
Ce n'est pas une promenade culturelle, c'est un drive-in.
La politique s'illustre par le recrutement, les tarifs prohibitifs du musée, le "traitement" des postulants au conservatoire, la petitesse de médiathèque du premier étage... Quand on pense au futur marché aux fromages, on se demande pourquoi la population n'est pas consultée
