Sancoins has become a European centre for the livestock market. The ramparts of the th century, the towers Sainte-Catherine, Colombier and Jeanne-d'Arc, and the old parts of the city also deserve a little walk. If Sancoins has never been a large town, the city, located at the crossroads of large commercial routes, has seen the passing of famous characters. Julius Caesar crossed Sancoins to put the Eduens under his domination on the Côté side. Vercingétorix went there, at the head of his armies and Joan of Arc also crossed the city to pass on Saint-Pierre-le-To. And some of the famous characters, Sancoins was born. Among them the author Marguerite Audoux, author of Marie-Claire, and Oscar Metenier, founder of the Grand Guignol in Paris.
