Originally the village, and according to the pious tradition, an ermite from Greece in the ninth century called Santiago de Saxeau, built a sanctuary. This shrine will become chapel, giving its name to the present village. In the next century, the Normands enter the Berry. The shrine took the name of "Chapel" and became the hamlet of "La Chapelle". Then the village changed its name successively: " Capella Gilonis " (1205)," Dam Gilon Chapel " (1405) and finally" Angillon Chapel ". The latter names evoke the power of Sully's family, one of the four sons, Gillon, made the castle and the village fortified. The beautiful oak forest and beech forest of Saint-Palais is known to be the site of the author of the book Le Grand Meaulnes, Alain-Fournier, native of La Chapelle.
