Located on the edge of the Bourbonnais region, this village is world-famous: it's where Alain-Fournier spent his childhood. He describes it as Sainte-Agathe in his book Le Grand Meaulnes. The school-museum with its courtyard, Monsieur Seurel's classroom, the attic on the second floor and the ferme des Marins (sailors' farm) provide an insight into the author and his sources of inspiration. Epineuil-le-Fleuriel also has a whole heritage to discover: the atypical Saint-Martial church, the remains of medieval fortifications, the double lock at "la Queugne" and the eighteen-metre-long arched canal bridge.
