The first real village south-east of Ohrid, Dolno Konjsko ("Konjsko-le-Bas") is fairly recent, since the inhabitants of Konjsko, situated at an altitude of 1,060 m on Mount Galičica, moved here to the lakeside after the Second World War. From the 1970s onwards, Dolno Konjsko grew with the creation of the large hotel zone of Sveti Stefan, with its beaches, shuttle boats to St. Naum and a host of large tourist establishments such as the Granit, Bellevue and Métropol hotels. The village of Dolno Konjsko itself is somewhat removed from all the hustle and bustle (and concrete). But to enjoy more peace and quiet, you need to climb up to the old hamlets of Konjsko (4 km to the south-east, on a small winding road) and Velestovo (to the north-east, at the traffic circle at the entrance to Ohrid town). Here you can enjoy magnificent lake views and hiking trails in the Galičica National Park.
