Banovići/Бановићи (pronounced "banovichi") has a population of about 6,500, of which 94% are Bosniaks. It is the capital of the municipality of Banovići (population 22,000), in the canton of Tuzla. The town is 29 km southwest of Tuzla and 42 km northwest of Kladanj. Frequent bus connections to Tuzla and Sarajevo.Banovići is a mining town known for the quality of its brown coal. It is not its 100% concrete architecture that will seduce you. But it is home to the precious natural area of Mount Konjuh and the almost last steam trains in Europe.
