From the end of the Roman republican era, Anzio was one of the places where patricians used to spend their holidays. During the Empire, all the emperors stayed there, so much so that Caligula even thought of electing it as the capital! A stop here is a must, especially since its beaches are among the most accessible from Rome. The quality of the water is certified by the Bandiera blu label, which guarantees its cleanliness. The free beach is remarkable because it is located under the remains of Nero's villa. Worth knowing: Anzio was the scene of the Allied landing on January 22, 1944. The Museo dello sbarco is dedicated to this historic event.
