Salvaterra de Magos, a peaceful village in the Ribatejo, was one of the favorite places of the court, which had built facilities that offered the amenities that the princes were used to in Lisbon. There was a palace with beautiful gardens, a stage for theater and opera, and a royal falconry, the only one in Portugal. Most of the buildings have disappeared, but the Royal Falconry remains and continues to breed the most beautiful birds... Other pampered animals here are the bulls, growing up in pastures and pine forests and then joining the arena and the tourada, the Portuguese bullfight without killing.
