North of the magnificent Cooley Peninsula, the Carlingford area is a veritable hotbed of Irish Celtic mythology, steeped in legends such as the 12th-century saga The Cattle Raid of Cooley, which tells the epic story of the battle between Queen Medb and the terrible warrior Cúchulainn, over the fabulous brown bull of Cooley. Halfway between Dublin and Belfast, the picturesque medieval town of Carlingford lies on the deep inlet of Carlingford Lough, a natural border with Northern Ireland. It's a great place to get a taste of the Irish way of life.
