At an altitude of 1,370 m, the Sierra Negra volcano has a crater of 10 km², one of the largest in the world, which constitutes the main attraction of the island. It can be reached from Santo Tomás by a 9 km long dirt road. From the crater, you can also continue towards the Chico (8 km) or Azufre (10 km) volcanoes. It is possible to rent camping equipment in the village, but beware of the frequent fog and rain. It is also possible to climb the mountain on horseback; check that the animal is in good health, as travelers have reported that some horses are weak. We go there by bus from Puerto Villamil twice a day.
