Also called Narborough, it is the3rd largest island of the archipelago (642 km²) and one of the youngest. It is the most western of the islands and the closest to Isabela. They are separated by the Bolívar channel. Fernandina has the particularity of having one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, the volcano La Cumbre (1 463 m) which dominates the island. Its lava fields are spectacular and colonies of iguanas live there, on the black rocks. The island has an arid vegetation, composed of thorny plants and cacti. Fernandina is accessible by boat; a day trip from Isabela or during a cruise in the archipelago.
