Lares is an alternative trek that links the village of Lares and its thermal baths to Ollantaytambo in 3 days and 2 nights. On the last day, you will take the train to Machu Picchu, so the trek does not arrive directly on the archeological site, but you will have crossed deserted landscapes of puna and lagoons dotted here and there with stone houses and peasants who seem to have frozen in time. Lares is definitely an Andean postcard. The trek itself is not very difficult. Good for families, less for hardcore sportsmen. It can also be combined with the one day Camino Inca (Km 104) to reach Machu Picchu.
