Located 90 km north of Toruń, the town of Tuchola is the "capital" of the famous Tuchola Forest (Bory Tucholskie), one of the largest in Poland. With its medieval layout, it retains some fragments of the old 14th-century walls. The area is particularly popular for its attractive landscape. Around fifty lakes surround the town, offering numerous opportunities for bathing. The Brda River is a great place for canoeing, ideal for exploring the forest. A visit to the hydroelectric installations on the Brda Canal is well worth the detour. These hundred-and-fifty-year-old devices are still in operation.
