An important town of the Teutonic Order founded in the early 13th century and the birthplace of Nicolaus Copernicus, Toruń is one of Poland's most beautiful cities. The city endured invasions, then Swedish and Prussian annexations, before reverting to Polish rule in the aftermath of the First World War, all without damaging its medieval town center. Today, Toruń is a renovated, tourist-oriented city, where you can take a long stroll through the historic quarter. Despite its 200,000 inhabitants, it remains a rather quiet and authentic metropolis. One day is enough to see the main attractions.
