Gladden Spit is best visited between April and June, when the whale sharks - the largest fish in the Caribbean Sea, over 12 meters in length for the larger specimens - show up. They are gentle as lambs and the experience of diving with them is fantastic. Quite close to Placencia, these two sites are ideal for a day's snorkeling or scuba diving. To have a chance of seeing whale sharks, you need to plan an immersion between 2 days before and 10 days after the full moon from March to June.
